The Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Abdul Wahhab Al-Rasheed, said 163,180 pensioners are registered with the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) including 37,310 who receive salaries less than 1,000 dinars and 29,817 who receive salaries more than 2,000 dinars.

He said this in response to a parliamentary query by MP Jenan Bushehri. Giving a breakdown, the minister said 37,310 retirees receive pensions of less than 1,000 dinars, while 56,553 retirees receive salaries from 1,000 to less than 1,500 dinars, 39,500 retirees receive a salary ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 dinars, while 29,817 retirees receive a salary above 2,000 dinars, reports a local Arabic daily.

According to the institution, the statement does not include the number of deceased pensioners and their beneficiaries in accordance with the provisions of the PIFSS law.
